What colour would match a "wine red"?
Posted on November 15th, 2009 by admin
I just repatined my room 2 weeks ago and i’m now unsure with what colours to decorate it with. For example: What colour bed spread to have? What colour accessories to have? I have a feature wall which is a "wine red" colour and the other walls are an off white colour and furniture of dark wood brown. I don’t want everything to be one colour as it could possibly look boring. I think maybe something that will match the red but look different at the same time. What do you think? Let me know your ideas.
Thanks.
wow it sounds like what you have done so far is great. I’d go to Walmart and get the paint sample cards that contain wine red to see what goes great with it. Use accent colors sparingly since red will probably be your dominant color. That’s a popular color [the red] and lots of nice things in that color are in the stores.

I think the best colors to match a wine red or maroon color would be other deep colors like royal blue, royal purple, forest green, colors of that nature. They should go well with dark brown furniture too.

Try an accent shade to add more contrast like a burnt orange. A dark royal blue will also blend in nicely.

I have always heard that if you check the Color Wheel, you can pick a color that is opposite the one you have to match. This color will compliment your Wine Red. However, In my mind I can see a rich or deep golden color. That would look nice and not make the room look to dark and would look great with the brown furniture.

I personally think you should try a few of the larger pieces to match your red wall, then accent the room with small detailed items in metallic gold. I think that would look the best. but thats just my opinion!
